Lake Shikotsu
Hokkaido
Lake Shikotsu is a caldera lake in Shikotsu-Toya National Park in Chitose, Hokkaido. Its maximum depth of 360 m is Japan's second-deepest, and its water quality has been ranked first in Japan for 11 consecutive years. Active volcanoes Mt. Eniwa and Mt. Tarumae mirror on its surface in vivid emerald summers; winter brings the dreamlike Hyoto (ice sculpture) Festival.
